Customer Story: DPG Media

DPG Media is a Belgian media group operating across Belgium and the Netherlands. The company provides a wide range of advertising and media services to clients and leverages Salesforce as a core platform to support business operations.

We spoke with Daan Decrick, Salesforce Developer at DPG Media, to understand how PDF Butler has improved their document generation processes and why it became a preferred solution for their complex use cases.

How DPG Media Uses Salesforce

At DPG Media, Salesforce is used to manage media campaigns for advertising clients across various platforms such as radio, TV, digital, and print. Business users input campaign data directly into Salesforce, configure advertising requirements, and even integrate with ad servers for digital content delivery—all from within the platform.

“Salesforce is more than just a CRM for us,” Daan explains. “It’s an integration hub that connects our marketing, sales, finance, and other internal departments.”

DPG Media uses a specialized managed package on Salesforce tailored for media companies, similar to Salesforce CPQ. This enables users to configure and deliver campaigns efficiently across multiple channels and locations.

Before PDF Butler

Before switching to PDF Butler, DPG Media was using another document generation tool. However, after two years, the limitations became clear.

“It wasn’t easy to maintain and wasn’t even supported on MacBooks, which we all use,” says Daan. “We always needed one Windows laptop just to configure things. Merge fields were hard to work with, and overall, it was too complex.”

Maintenance challenges and inefficiencies led the team to research alternatives. After a successful proof of concept, they decided PDF Butler was the best fit.

Choosing PDF Butler

According to Daan, the buying and onboarding process was straightforward and transparent.

“They were super helpful from the start,” Daan notes. “The support team is incredibly responsive. We’d ask a question in the morning and have a solution by noon. That was a big difference from our previous provider, where responses took days.”

Performance also played a key role. “Even with complex documents, PDF Butler runs fast. That was another pain point with our old solution.”

Implementation and Use Cases

Today, around 100 users at DPG Media generate proposals and agreements using PDF Butler. Their documents often include multilingual content: Dutch, French, and English—and involve numerous variations and configurations.

“PDF Butler helps us handle complex documents with multiple languages and templates,” says Daan.

Key Benefits

When asked about the biggest advantage of PDF Butler, Daan didn’t hesitate:

“From day one, it was faster and easier to maintain. Our previous tool made updates like adding merge fields or new tables really time-consuming. With PDF Butler, those tasks are quicker and simpler.”

The internal development time has also improved: “We used to spend a week implementing document changes. Now it’s one or two days. It’s easier to maintain, which helps us move faster.”

Expanding with SIGN Butler

DPG Media also adopted SIGN Butler to support their proposal signing process.

“It’s just as flexible as PDF Butler,” says Daan. “You can guide users through the signing process, add your own code, and it’s easy to set up. Most importantly, it’s maintainable. That’s something we really value across all Butler products.”

Final Thoughts

Switching to PDF Butler has enabled DPG Media to reduce complexity, speed up development, and deliver better user experiences across teams. With both PDF Butler and SIGN Butler integrated into their Salesforce environment, DPG Media continues to streamline their document workflows and empower their teams to work more efficiently.

Daan believes PDF Butler stands out as a maintainable and smart solution:

“If you’re looking for something that’s easy to maintain, PDF Butler is definitely a great option. They also have clever features like in-memory roll-ups that helped us bypass Salesforce limitations.”
